The Association of Charitable Foudations

This is the sixth edition of Family Foundation Giving Trends, led by Professor Cathy Pharoah of the Centre for Giving and Philanthropy at the Cass Business School, published by the Association of Charitable Foundations, and substantially supported by the Pears Foundation. The report reveals that family foundation giving, which accounts for 59% of all foundation giving by value, continued to rise. This is despite family foundations seeing a drop in total income (18.6% in real terms) which is almost double that of the foundation sector as a whole. Other findings include the fact that family foundations are now twice as reliant on income from investments as charitable foundations generally.

The report ranks the top 100 family foundations by giving and provides fresh insight into the size, shape and nature of their contribution to UK civil society. In contrast to its recently-published sister report, Foundation Giving Trends, which ranked the top 300 foundations, the new report focuses solely on the distinctive contribution of foundations that are founded through family, individual or family business wealth.
