Tessa Baring CBE
ACF staff and trustees were deeply saddened to hear about the death of Tessa Baring CBE.
Tessa was Chair of ACF from 1994-97, during a significant period for the organisation. She is remembered as undertaking the role with great personal kindness alongside a genuine flair for effective governance.
Tessa was also a great spokesperson for ACF, representing the organisation at a number of high-profile conferences and events, including our annual conference in Belfast and the European Foundation Centre summit in London.
Aside from ACF, Tessa played a leading role in the foundation sector more broadly. As a trustee of the Baring Foundation from May 1985 and its Chair from to July 2004 to June 2008, Tessa was key in bringing more focus to the issues of discrimination and disadvantage, underpinned and driven by her abiding sense of social justice and her enormous skill as a campaigner.
In a long and distinguished career, Tessa was also Chair of Barnardo’s, a Charity Commissioner and a founding board member of the National Lottery.
She will be greatly missed.
The funeral will be held at 3pm, on 18th June, at St John’s Notting Hill. All welcome. No flowers. Donations to St Michael’s Fellowship, 136 Streatham High Street, London, SW16 1BW.
