BBC Children in Need is looking for new members to join our South West Regional Advisory Committee. We would welcome applications from those who share our commitment to support children and young people across the South West region to be safe, happy, secure, and provided with the opportunities they need to reach their potential.

What do we do?

We support children and young people affected by a whole range of disadvantages such as poverty, disability, illness, distress or trauma. Our aim is to achieve positive impact with and for children and young people who experience disadvantage.

To do this, we raise money both throughout the year and in our annual November appeal. Through this we are able to fund local charities and projects which help remove the barriers that face children and young people and enable them to thrive.

How can you help?

While we want to act quickly to meet need and deliver important outcomes for children and young people, we know we can do this best when our decisions are well informed. Along with data, information and evidence of need, the South West Regional Advisory Committee is a key part in helping us make grants that put our resources to work where they’re needed most.

We highly value the benefits of having different points of view and experiences on our Advisory Committee and welcome applications from everyone irrespective of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, faith and religion, disability and age.

We would especially welcome applications from practitioners supporting children and young people across the South West of England particularly (but not exclusively) projects which support beneficiaries from black and ethnic minority communities, those affected by domestic abuse, youth homelessness, who are care experienced or refugee and asylum seekers, early years and disabled children & young people. We would also encourage applications from young adults or individuals who may have benefited from the support of one of the projects we have funded.

Although this is an unpaid role, appropriate support will be offered to enable the full participation of all successful applicants.
