The British Science Association (BSA) is a charity, founded in 1831 and incorporated by Royal Charter.

Prospectus is delighted to be working closely with the BSA to recruit a Head of Grants to lead on an exciting new development programme focusing on inclusion and diversity funded by the Wellcome Trust.

This role is offered on a permanent basis with initial funding confirmed for 2 years.

The role:

The Head of Grants will be responsible for launching and leading on a brand-new funding programme for individuals and organisations across the UK aimed at engaging public audiences with health research. The role will build on existing good practice and bring onboard new voices and communities to make a real step-change to public engagement with BSA's work.

The new fund will enable more 'connectors' who have access, trust and established relationships with communities and researchers, to identify and act on areas of health research that can be shaped or used by the UK public.

This role will involve, liaising with key stakeholders to mobilise networks with potential partners to ensure the success of this programme, will champion innovation in the sector, recruit, manage and develop a small grants team to proactively engage in the process, ensuring due diligence is adhered to, producing clear and concise reports to the funders and working closely with the wider team at BSA to ensure clarity and compliance to overall aims and objectives.

The person:

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in a similar senior relational grant-making role with extensive stakeholder engagement and team management and development experience. Substantial partnerships management and grants programme design and innovation will also be important. A creative and dynamic senior manager, this person will have multi-site project management experience, will be agile and flexible in their approach and will be financially astute and analytical by nature. Community focussed and able to appreciate the national importance of the work of BSA will be essential. An understanding of the challenges faced by social innovators and science/health research communicators, community driven programme management experience and/or lived experience of being part of a currently under-represented community will be useful but not essential.
