We are seeking a dynamic, innovative and compassionate individual for the role of Foundation Manager, to manage the implementation of philanthropic initiatives of Aesop in the United Kingdom, specifically the Aesop Foundation UK, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. In addition, the individual will drive and catalyse broader philanthropic function of the business including product donations and volunteering across Europe.

To this end the Aesop Foundation supports neighbourhoods with literary and culturally focussed initiatives using a percentage of our profit. The individual will be required to help carry out this mission and will be responsible for driving the granting activities and internal staff engagement related to the Aesop Foundation in the UK, including liaising with the grant making Committee, Board, Aesop staff and the not for profit sector.

In this role you will support the Head of Foundation with all grant making requirements of the Aesop Foundation in the UK, and will be an active advocate in the business for the Foundation and other philanthropic activities globally.

Main Responsibilities:

Grant making

  • Through strong relationships with the charities sector, develop and manage the pipeline of potential applicants
  • Build relationships with prospective grantees, driving to successful grant applications
  • Solicit applications and undertake rigorous due diligence to ensure successful projects and achieve granting targets
  • Build and maintain trusting and open relationships with grant partners
  • Manage contracts and ongoing communications with grant partners
  • Solicit and review progress and acquittal reports
  • Maintain grants database, together with the Foundation Coordinator

Board and Committee

  • Establish the Philanthropy Committee in UK with diverse staff representation and engagement
  • Train and develop the granting committee members in the process and function of granting, including consideration of: alignment to strategy, alignment to values, partner organisation and project due diligence
  • Train and develop the granting committee in assessing the progress and acquittal reports of partner projects
  • Schedule meetings for the Committee to ensure timely reporting to the Foundation Board
  • Work with the Communities team to prepare and distribute Board and Committee papers and minutes
  • Liaise with Board and Committee members and Communities team to schedule meetings, provide project updates, and support other requirements as needed
  • Coordinate and schedule site visits and meetings with sector colleagues and Aesop colleagues


  • Prepare formal and informal communications for Aesop staff globally, relating to Foundation activities (new partners, project progress, news), product donations and volunteering
  • Prepare formal updates for Aesop and Foundation Boards, as required
  • Present to retail and office teams to provide updates on key philanthropic initiatives


  • Lead the implementation of the Foundation’s Strategy in the UK and make recommendations for improvement
  • Review the Foundation’s progress against its strategy
  • Initiate and drive complementary programs between the Foundation and broader philanthropic initiatives of the business


  • Ensure all CIO and other compliance obligations of the Foundation are met
  • Ensure sound governance and operational effectiveness of the Aesop Foundation
  • Work closely with the Aesop Foundation (Australia) team to ensure alignment and consistency
  • Manage grantee payments and supporting documentation
To apply
  • 5+ years’ experience in grant making role in a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, other philanthropic foundation, or a related organisation
  • Experience with not for profit organisations, either in a grant making organisation or a fundraising organisation
  • Interest in the community sector
  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive to achieve strong outcomes for the team
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy
  • Ability to develop strong relationships across a diverse stakeholder group
  • Exhibit outstanding and effective communication skill
