There has never been a more critical time to take action to protect, restore and improve our natural world. The reality of climate change and the scale of nature's decline in the UK is mirrored by a growing movement to connect with nature and a desire to make change.

To meet this challenge, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation is increasingly focusing on the environment and sustainability: Our Natural World.

A leading independent funder, in 2019 we provided over £35 million in grants to organisations working in the arts, children and young people, sustainable food and environment, and social change. We also have an allocation of £45 million for social investment to support organisations creating social impact.

Director of Our Natural World

£65,000 - £72,000

This is a significant time for the Foundation as we launch a new strategy that fundamentally transforms how we work, engage and drive impact. Our new strategy sets out three new impact goals, with Our Natural World a key priority with increased funding.

We will take a more proactive approach, identify the best way to leverage resources and explore where the Foundation can add the greatest value, individually or through collaborations. We will also use our endowment, knowledge and voice to influence and build momentum.

The Director of Our Natural World is an exciting new role that will shape and drive our environmental work. The Director will play a pivotal role in implementing our new approach, creating an ambitious road map, horizon scanning to identify gaps, joining the dots between people and opportunities, brokering ideas and convening to make the greatest impact.

The very nature of this role and new approach mean that we seek a Director who has significant leadership expertise, ambition, expertise and networks in the environmental or natural world spaces, whether that be from the public, private or charity sectors. Alongside this, you will have outstanding communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with a track record of building successful partnerships and collaborations. Importantly, you will have strong strategic, analytical and creative thinking ability alongside excellent leadership skills, in order to deliver a cohesive and impactful programme of work. A strong collegiate approach, high standards of personal integrity, championing learning and development and a commitment to the Foundation's purpose and values will be essential.

We are passionate about advancing our work to protect the natural world and we would love to hear from relevant candidates who have the skills and experience outlined in the job description.
