The Wakefield & Tetley Trust is a registered charity which was created in 2008 by a merger of two Trusts established in the 1930's.  The Tower Hill Trust also dates from the 1930's.  The job-holder works for two-thirds of the time as Clerk of the Wakefield & Tetley Trust, and one third as Secretary and Treasurer of the Tower Hill Trust, and is the principal adviser to both Trusts.  The Trustees of the two Trusts have appointed the current Grants Officer to the post, but are seeking a job-share partner for her.  The Wakefield & Tetley Trust maes grants currently totalling about £310,000 per year, with an average grant of £6,480, to support charitable and voluntary activity in the London Borough of Southwark and the City of London.  The Trust aims to support projects that will make a positive difference to the lives of people who face significant disadvantage.  The Tower Hill Trust makes grants, currently running at £174,000 per year, with an average grant of £6,450, in the Tower Hill area and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets for the provision and support of open spaces, recreation facilities and educational facilities, and the relief of the aged, handicapped and poor.  Both Trusts rely for their income on endowments (including a number of properties), largely given at the time they were founded.  Both Trusts are governed by Trustees, but their day-to-day operation is in the hands of the Clerk/Secretary, who is based at the Trust's office in Bethnal Green.  The role is exciting and demanding, and requires a broad mix of skills and experience.  Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector, and particularly in a grant-giving charity, would be an advantage, as would skills and experience in accountancy, financial planning and property management.  However, the most important requirement is a willingness to work for the benefit of the people of the area, and anyone who has this willingness, plus some general administrative experience, is welcome to apply.  For more information, visit the websites of the two Trusts (,, or contact Roland Smith (; 020 7749 1118).
