The Wolfson Foundation is a charity that awards grants to support excellence in the fields of science, health, education and the arts & humanities. In 2019 we allocated some £40m in grants.

We are recruiting a key role for Wolfson: our Head of Grants. The post reports directly to the Chief Executive, line manages a team of five and will oversee all of our grant programmes and policies, helping to deliver the organisation’s new strategic framework which will be launched at the start of 2020.

The successful applicant will have an enthusiasm for the work of Wolfson and experience in at least one of the sectors in which we work. They will ideally have some experience of funding and, in particular, of the peer review process.

Essential skills include the ability to think strategically across the breadth of Wolfson’s work; juggle multiple, competing deadlines; and review and assess large amounts of information at pace.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, both for representing the organisation externally and for ensuring smooth internal working, and the confidence to work with senior stakeholders across the full breadth of the sectors that Wolfson supports.

You will be part of our senior management team, and it would be beneficial to have at least two years’ management experience as well as high levels of diplomacy and discretion.

About the role 

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our dynamic Grants Team and help deliver our grant programmes. The focus of the role will be to support Schools and Youth Organisations in West London to run the JPF Achievement Award Scheme and associated JPF programmes.

The role will require the post holder to develop membership of the JPF Achievement Award Scheme, promoting this to Schools and Youth Organisations that are not currently part of the scheme, as well as identifying growth and expansion for those already on the scheme. The Grants Officer will also be responsible for promoting, assessing and managing other JPF small grants and programmes, as well as representing the foundation at a large number of prestigious where we celebrate young people’s achievements.

About the person

You will be a team player who can demonstrate a close alignment with JPF values, strong communication and organisational skills and the ability to think creatively and analytically.


You will need to be flexible and be able to work in a fast paced, varied and diverse office.
