What is the role of Participatory Grantmaking in grantmaking?

 

Hear from speakers about how they are using the approaches of “Participatory Grantmaking” to make better and accessible grants by involving their communities. Hear about their approach, experiences, learning and challenges. The first hour will include presentations and discussions, as well as an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have or share your own learning.

Speakers:

Natasha Friend, Director of Camden Giving

Natasha Friend is the Director of Camden Giving, an organisation that is uncovering better ways of creative equity in communities, through her work in Camden she has supported Camden's communities to award £6 million in funding to local projects in the last 4 years. Natasha is a keen member of the Participatory Grantmaking Community Of Practice and Trustee of The Kids Network.

 

Marat Yu, Programme Manager at Porticus

Marat is currently the migration and anti-trafficking lead at Porticus Asia. He has experiences in women and child rights, labour migration, and corporate accountability in South and Southeast Asia. Marat holds a Master's degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and is a Council Member of Oxfam Hong Kong.

 

 

Fiona Montagud O'Curry, Programme Director at Calala Fund

Fiona  is the Director of Programmes in Calala Women’s Fund, a Spanish foundation created in 2009 to strengthen the women’s movement in Spain and Latin America. She holds a Degree in Political Science and a Master's Degree in Evaluation. With more than 15 years of experience on women's rights, she has worked in Spanish public administrations, as well as in Development NGOs both in Spain and in Central America. She joined Calala in 2013, where she is in charge of coordinating the support to their grantees through grantmaking, capacity building and networking activities. One of the main Programmes in Spain is called "Migrant Power", where they have recently implemented a participatory grantmaking approach.

 

Rahel Mitmita, Participation Advisor from Camden Giving

Rahel is a former Camden Giving Panellist and a member of the C4WS Homeless Project Steering Committee. Through her work in Camden she has supported local communities to award funding to a number of projects in the last three years.
