Invitation to join the second phase of The New Beginnings Fund
The New Beginnings Fund, which is a pooled fund established in response to the refugee crisis, is currently looking for additional input and contributions from trusts and foundations to increase the level of support available for the second phase of the programme.
The refugee crisis that escalated during the summer of 2015 and is still ongoing has had a dramatic impact in Europe in terms of inflows of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. In the UK, although numbers have been much lower than in other European countries, the number of asylum seekers is steadily increasing, placing incredible strain on the network of community-based support that is available within the UK. In the longer term the crisis threatens to undermine wider efforts to promote more equal, less divided communities throughout the UK
The current refugee crisis and its unsustainable impact on frontline organisations, has galvanised a number of trusts and foundations which have come together to develop the New Beginnings Fund. The fund, which is being administered by administered by the UK Community Foundation, has so far awarded £506,000 to small local groups working to welcome refugees and asylum seekers into their local communities across the UK. In addition, the fund has attracted a further £500,000 which will be used to fund a second phase of the programme to be launched in September 2016.
