John Ellerman Foundation Appoints a New Director and Chair

Press release

The Trustees of the John Ellerman Foundation are delighted to announce the appointment of Nicola Pollock as their new Director.  Nicola will take up her role on 19 September 2011.

Nicola has worked at the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation for nearly eleven years. As Director of Grant-making, since 2007, she has led the distribution of grants up to £30million per annum. Earlier she was responsible for developing policy and priorities for the new Social Change programme which she then managed for seven years.  Nicola started her career with the Citizen's Advice Bureau in various roles including Borough Director in Camden and developing a national strategy for debt and money advice work in the North East region.   She then moved to the National Lottery Charities Board North East where, as Operations Manager, she was responsible for their grant-making policy, promotion and communications.

Nicola brings to the Foundation a deep experience of the charitable world and of issues faced by organisations, in particular in these straightened times and a strong understanding of the problems faced by those at greatest disadvantage in society.

The John Ellerman Trustees also announce that Richard Edmunds will be retiring from the Foundation at the end of July 2011. He has served as Trustee for ten years, and chaired the Board with great skill for the last seven years. The new chairman will be Sarah (Lady) Riddell, who has been a Trustee since 2002 and knows the Foundation well.  Sarah started her early career at Amnesty International and then moved into arts publishing. She has a considerable knowledge of Arts and Heritage and of Health and Disability, having been Deputy Chairman of the Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust for five years.

In addition, the Trustees have appointed Vivien Gould as a Trustee and to replace Richard as a member of the Finance Committee.  Vivien has gained extensive experience of commercial and financial organisations over the last thirty years, as both an executive and non-executive director.  Vivien is currently a Director and Trustee of The Stroke Association, where she chairs the Investment Committee, and of the Cobalt Appeal Fund, a leading provider of state of the art diagnostic imaging services to the NHS and to the independent sector.
