Trustee

John Ellerman Foundation

Application deadline 1 May 2017

John Ellerman Foundation is an endowed grant maker, spending just over £5m a year on grants in three categories - the arts, environment and welfare. This is supported by an investment portfolio of around £140m. Our Trustees are recruited as specialists in one of our strands of work, which may be grant making or investments, and we always look for a combination of specialist experience with a breadth of interests.

We are now seeking to appoint a Trustee with an investment background, with an appetite for the wider role. This is an unusual position, as all Trustees undertake responsibilities over and above what is usually expected of a Trustee, mainly visiting applicant charities and preparing reports on these visits. This high degree of engagement means we are looking for a flexible commitment of roughly 2-3 days a month. In summary we are looking for someone with:

• high level professional experience of institutional investment management;

• broad interest in the charity sector, philanthropy and an appetite for contributing to all areas of the Foundation’s operation;

• commitment to good governance and a collegiate approach to working with fellow Trustees, while enjoying challenge and debate; and

• the time and commitment to devote to the role for 5 years.
