ACF launches new five year strategy

19 January 2023

ACF is committed to “strengthening trusts and foundations so they can rise to the challenges of our times,” said Carol Mack OBE, chief executive of the Association of Charitable Foundations as it launched its new five year strategy.

The Association, whose members together hold around one third of the assets of the charity sector and make over 40 per cent of the grants given by UK foundations, consulted with its 440 members over the past year to finalise the new strategy.

“Our members were telling us about the challenges they see, specifically around addressing inequalities, the cost of living crisis and the ongoing impact of the pandemic. They also want to respond to the climate crisis, act more on diversity, equity and inclusion and work together on stronger grant-making and investment practice,” said Mack.

“We recognise the unique role we have as a membership association in supporting our members to collectively rise to these challenges.

“We better understand what strong foundation practice is through our member-led Stronger Foundations initiative. Our strategy provides the framework to strengthen and support foundations and trusts to aspire to and achieve that excellent practice. I’m excited to help members realise that potential.”

Jessica Brown, chair of ACF’s board of trustees, said: “Foundations and trusts embody the belief that things can be better; mobilising funding, resources and expertise to support people, communities, and a wide range of charitable causes. At their best, foundations are the most transparent, intentional and efficient way of transforming private wealth into public benefit.

“This strategy sets ACF’s vision of diverse, vibrant and effective foundations working together for social good. We’re looking forward to working with and for members on this over the next five years.”
